Personnel

The Centre for Project Management (CPM) is a constituent unit of the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick and is classified by the University as a ‘centre of excellence’. The CPM is located on campus within the International Business Centre. An endowed chair in project management was established at the University during 1991; currently there are 8 full-time staff, 3 part-time contract staff, and an outreach network of 15 part-time tutors. This resource is not static but is being added to continuously.

The CPM's mission is to be a leading national, European and international centre for the advancement, dissemination and application of project management knowledge in the private and public sectors. The CPM's particular mission is to transform project management expertise into viable practical solutions for the operational benefit of organisations and companies.

The essence of the CPM’s focus involves teaching, research, training and consultancy all undertaken in a manner that requires close contact with industry, the institutions and government.

      Have at least 4 year’s expereince at supervisory levelor above

  • Duration:
    • 2 years with 2 semesters per year

  • Features:
    • Core education programme since 1992
    • Initially delivered as an executive programme, the distance learning delivery mechanism was introduced in 1999.
    • The structure and content of both programmes is the same. Both are run over a 2 year period and cover with the same modules.
    • The essential difference is in the delivery mechanism where the distance learning option is largely self-taught with an outreach support provided via a panel of tutors.
    • The executive programme is a taught programme in the more traditional sense.

  • Content:
    • To gain an understanding of project strategies, approaches and methodologies
    • To provide an approach to developing a focussed project plan to manage implementation
    • To develop a results driven project team
    • To use the risk management process to manage project uncertainties
    • To avoid conflict by extablishing roles, repsonsibilities and communciations channels
    • To develop effective methods for scheduling and controlling projects
    • To establish a dependable project control monitoring system.
  • Target group:
    • Experiences project managers, project team leaders, and those working in specialist disciplines within a project environment.
  • Duration:
    • 4-day workshop delivered in two blocks each of two days.
Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam Preparation Programme

  • Content:
    • To gain a thorough understanding of the principles and processes deescribed in the PMBOK ®
    • To be able to cite the nine essential processes, their subprocesses and where each process fits into the five process groups
    • To understand the major tools and techniques described in the PMBOK®
    • To become familiar withthe types of questions regularly posed in the PMP® exam
    • To complete a simulation PMP® exam at the eend of the course.
  • Target group:
    • Those wishing to gain the PMP® qualification and to understand the terminology and principles behind the methods.
  • Duration:
    • 3-day workshop.
