2nd PMUni workshop 2012 in Utrecht, Netherlands

The 2nd PMUni workshop in 2012 took place at the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht, Netherlands and was hosted by Gilbert Silvius. We thank the team of the University of Applied Sciences for organizing a successful and interesting PMUni workshop.


The morning session focused on project and process management education in different universities. After a short introduction from Gilbert Silvius the status of PMUni was presented by Roland Gareis. After that all participants introduced themselves and explained their role at their universities. The following topics were presented and discussed in detail:

  • Steven Nijhuis from the University of Applied Science Utrecht, Netherlands presented the results of his research about Developing project management competences
  • Andreas Nachgabauer from the University of Applied Science bfi Vienna, Austria informed talked about the new book on HRM in Project management and about a planned Erasmus IP
  • Eva Riis from the University of Southern Denmark informed about her research in Governance of projects
  • Zsolt T. Kosztyán from the University of Pannonia, Hungary presented Risk and Reliability Based Project Planning

At last the future of PMUni was discussed, proposals were made. It was decided that the University of Cluj and RGCresearch become new members of PMUni.

1st PMUni workshop 2013 in Vienna

On 24th April 2013 the next PMUni workshop will take place in Vienna one day before the happy projects`13 conference. The venue will be the University of Applied Sciences bfi. We kindly invite you to both events and ask for presentations for the PMUni workshop.

The presentations planned shall relate

  • to general research and education news of the PMUni partners and
  • to the special topic of research-based project management (education)

The happy projects ’13 conference takes place from 25 - 26 April 2013 at Tech Gate in Vienna, Austria.  The conference focus on "Sustainable Management – Re-thinking Project, Process, & Change Management” with a wide variety of speeches, presentations and workshops offered on such topics as:

Two-stage application process

  • The candidates submit the application form which includes an abstract.
  • After notification of acceptance the full paper is submitted.

Criteria for the evaluation of the papers

  • Contribution to the further development of process & project management
  • Originality and innovation of content
  • Master and PhD students (max. 6 months after graduation at time of abstract submission)
  • Papers must solely be written by one/two students
  • Max. 15 pages/A4 in English language
  • The paper must not have been published in scientific journals or at research conferences before

Call for partners for the international week of the University of Applied Science in Vienna

International Master Course Week „MANAGING INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS"

Call for project partners

Project context:

The City of Vienna, respectively its Municipal Department 23 for Economic Affairs, Labour and Statistics (MA 23), annually opens a call for proposals of Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences with regard to teaching and research projects.

This year’s call, deadline 19 March 2013, is open for the topic of ‘Internationalisation of teaching and research’. The UAS bfi Vienna intends to apply for funding (maximum 300.000 EUR) for the following project:

International Week for Master degree students:

- Content: "Managing international projects" (specific topics to be defined annually in the project consortium)

- Duration: 1 week per year in February, 2014-2016

- Course design: mix of theoretical inputs and project work, combined with virtual preparation and post-processing work. Course design to be specified with project partners. Main idea is to divide the international student group into small project teams of 4-6 people, becoming responsible for a work package of a project which will be sponsored/initiated by a real company.

- Prerequisite: minimum 3 ECTS in Project Management „? knowledge about PM methods, PM processes/phases.

- Learning outcomes e.g.:

o Ability to work in or to lead an international/intercultural project team (leading competency, team orientation)

o Ability to create a project handbook according to an international standard IPMA/ PMI (methodological competency)

o Ability to apply previously acquired PM methods in an international setting (application)

o Ability to communicate with stakeholders (communication skills)

How to become a project partner:

1. Sign a Letter of Intent stating your intention to become a partner in the funding project for the period 2013-2016 to provide the project with:

a. 1 Lecturer per year for the IW to teach/coach/accompany students

b. 3-5 Students per year for participation in the IW

c. (optionally: to provide funding for the students’ travel and subsistence costs)

Available funding:

- 75% funding for travel and subsistence costs of the lecturer, 25% paid by UAS bfi Vienna

- Remuneration for the lecturer for giving theoretical inputs/coaching activities tbc

- 75% funding for the IW programme (no costs for the courses and social events), 25% paid by UAS bfi Vienna

Costs:

- Travel and subsistence costs of students.
